RYE, NY (April 25, 2016)  Hundreds of runners, families and children enjoyed a sunny, spring day of races and festivities on Sunday, April 24.

Runners followed either a 5-mile or 5K course, officially started by Deputy Mayor Julie Killian. The male winners of the 5-mile race were Mathew Kitlagat (24:14); Kumsa Megersa (24:27) and Derek Lake (25:24). The other male 5K winners were Mauricio Montiel (17:55) and Ben Sweet (18:59). The 5K female winners (all age 12) were: Brenna Hazen (21:42), Eve Spencer (21:50) and Rebecca Herzberg (23:58)

The Rye Y parking lot was filled with Healthy Kids Day fun including active games, live music, a climbing wall, free BBQ, frozen yogurt, sponsors tables and much more. Rye Y summer camp staff led a preview of camp activities including gymnastics, archery, crafts, basketball, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities and chess.

The day culminated with a 1-mile family fun run/walk kicked-off by Senator George Latimer. The streets of Rye overflowed with HealthyKidsDayenthusiastic families and kids of all ages running, walking, skipping and pushing strollers.

“We are grateful to all the community members – sponsors and volunteers who made this day possible,” said Sally Wright, Rye Y Director of Development.  Proceeds will help support the Rye Y financial assistance program, ensuring that the Rye Y can keep its powerful promise to the community: no-one will be turned away from a program or activity because he or she can’t pay.
