Our Cause: Strengthening Community

The above video highlights a few stories illustrating the Y’s impact, everyday.

Give Local Day

YOUR GIFT, YOUR COMMUNITY

From noon Tuesday, May 5 through noon on Wednesday, May 6, the Rye Y will take part in Give Local Westchester and Putnam, a 24-hour online event designed to raise funds for local nonprofits. Give Local celebrates the spirit of giving and the collective effort it takes to strengthen our communities by raising vital funds for organizations that make an impact every day.

Your tax-deductible contribution to the Rye YMCA will support our Y Cares Program, helping us keep a powerful promise to the communities we serve: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay.

All it takes it one easy click.

So give local…and send a kid to camp. Give local…to support a cancer survivor through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.  Give local… and help a struggling family pay for childcare. Give local… because you care.

Why I Volunteer – Paula

paulaI have been volunteering at the Y for almost 3 ½ years. I enjoy working at the Front Desk and greeting our current and prospective members. I especially enjoy watching our youngest members grow—from arriving in Mommy’s arms, to walking, talking, and running up to me when they see me in the local supermarket to tell me that they just celebrated another birthday, what they did that day, and what they are learning in pre-school. They are all so precious.

As a cancer survivor myself, I find it very rewarding to interview participants for our LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors. I have met so many amazing people through this process. I am especially gratified when participants tell me that they appreciate being interviewed by a “fellow survivor”, since I know, first hand, what it is like.

Volunteering at the Y was my retirement gift to myself and, I can honestly say that it is one of the best gifts I have ever received!

Rye Y’s Rye Derby and Healthy Kids Day will run on April 27

RYE, NY [April 10, 2015]The Rye Y is celebrating the 27th anniversary of its annual Rye Derby along with Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, April 27. The day will kick off with a 5K race and a 5 mile race, both starting at 10:15 am. A 1 mile family fun run/walk starts at 12:15 pm.

Several world class athletes as well as local runners are expected to participate in the races. Medals are given to championship race winners in their age groups and there is a cash purse for the top 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the 5 mile race.

A morning of active fun and festivities is planned at the Rye Y for Healthy Kids Day. Starting at 10:30 am, families are invited to gather at the Rye Y for active games, live music and a BBQ, culminating in the family fun run.

Race and Fun Run participants are encouraged to register in advance by visiting www.ryeymca.org or stopping by Rye YMCA Member Services at 21 Locust Avenue in Rye.  The first 600 registered runners will receive free t-shirts.  The fee for the 5 mile and 5K race is $25 or $30 the day of the race. The fun run/walk fee is $20. Race day registration starts at 8 am. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Margaret Mead at 967-6363, ext. 403.

The proceeds from the Rye Derby and other fundraising events replenish our Y Cares Fund…and give hope to those who need it most. The Rye Y has made a powerful promise to our community: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can’t pay. In 2014 alone, we awarded over $560,000 in financial assistance to our neighbors in Rye, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Harrison and beyond.
