Rye YMCA’s “Best of Westchester” Swim Program Gears Up for Fall
(Sept. 4, 2009) Selected by Westchester Magazine as the 2009 Editor’s Pick (“Best of Westchester”) for its instructional
swim program, the Rye YMCA is decidedly not resting on its laurels. The Y continuously strives to improve its acclaimed aquatics program.
One exciting new development is the Ultra Violet technology recently installed in the Brookside Pool. UV Light Technology provides a non-chemical treatment which works in conjunction with chlorine, providing an additional layer of protection against bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. “Use of the UV system reduces the amount of chemicals needed to clean the pool,” said Laura Tiedge, Rye Y Senior Director of Healthy Lifestyles. “Our members appreciate the reduction of the typical swimming pool smell as well as the user-friendly ‘green’ technology.”
The Y has also added several pieces of new equipment to enhance swim instruction, including underwater swim mirrors and tempo trainers. “The tempo trainers are very effective in improving stroke rhythm,” said Tiedge. “With swim mirrors, swimmers can see what they are doing and more easily correct their form.”
A youth triathlon preparation class and an endurance triathlon swim class for adults will launch this fall. Stroke clinics for adults and dozens of swim classes for all ages as well as private swim instruction, video stroke analysis, and aqua exercise personal training are also offered.
