The Abundant Assets Alliance seeks to strengthen the capacity of YMCAs and the communites they serve to provide young people with the support and experiences they need to become healthy, caring and competent adults.
|
The Rye YMCA believes Asset building will help us in our goal of building
strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

What are Assets? Why are they Important?
- Young people struggle to develop positive values, an ethic of civic responsibility and educational skills.
- Harnessing the power of extensive research on developmental assets--the essential building blocks for human development--the alliance partners of the Search Institute, YMCA USA and YMCA Canada, have developed a holistic, systematic approach to improving young peoples' lives that involves the entire community.
- Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets are concrete, common sense, positive experiences and qualities essential to raising successful young people. These assets have the power during critical adolescent years to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults.
- The Developmental Asset framework is categorized into two groups of 20 assets.
External Assets are positive experiences young people receive from the world around them. Click here to view the 20 external Developmental Assets.
Internal Assets identify those characteristics and behaviors that reflect positive internal growth and development of young people. Click here to view the 20 internal Developmental Assets.
